Radioiodine therapy of thyroid cancer requires higher amounts of I-131. Radiation safety measures must be observed. Inpatient administration of therapy in a specially prepared shielded room will be needed. Therapy is administered following thyroidectomy in patients with iodine- avid follicular and papillary thyroid tumors for thyroid remnant ablation, treatment of recurrent thyroid cancer and treatment of functional metastases.
